Postdoctoral Position
Nievergelt lab
University of California, San Diego
A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nievergelt, Department of Psychiatry, UCSD to join an NIMH-funded international collaborative study investigating the genetic basis of PTSD.
The study examines genetic associations with PTSD and stress-related phenotypes in a multi-site sample collection of >80,000 subjects available through the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium for PTSD.
The postdoctoral project focuses on harmonization and integration of PTSD symptoms and trauma phenotypes across over 50 international studies to investigate the role of genetic risk variants and biological pathways in multi-ethnic GWAS in PTSD. The post-doctoral fellow will work in a world-class environment at UCSD and through the PGC, consisting of clinical and basic scientists, psychiatrists, and statistical geneticists who are leaders in human genetic studies of complex psychiatric disorders and related traits. The fellow will also interact with PGC PTSD affiliated working groups focusing on epigenetics, gene expression, imaging, and psychophysiology who are drawing from the harmonized PTSD and trauma phenotypes.
Applicants must have a PhD in clinical psychology, psychiatric/behavioral genetics or a related field, with a strong interest in measurement and psychometrics, and training in statistical analysis methods, including experience with analytical software and computer programming in R. Applicants should have a broad theoretical knowledge of psychiatric/behavioral phenotypes, and demonstrated experience in the statistical modeling of these phenotypes. Strong writing and communication skills and ability to work independently are essential.
Interested candidates should submit a description of their research interests, CV, and the names and contact information of three references. Applications should be e-mailed to cnievergelt@ucsd.edu with ‘PGC PTSD Postdoctoral position’ in the subject line.
